The redesign of our culture

The Redesign of our Culture

The Venus Project is the reason i started this blog and with the current economic climate i do feel it would be a good idea to drop the monetary system for a resource based economy. In Europe most companies are starting to feel the pressure and especially the smaller companies have to lay off employees due to the state of the economy at this time. Thousands of people are going to lose their job short term and in the long run the situation doesn't look like it is going to improve. In the USA i can only imagine how bad things are and i do hope that Obama will be able to turn the tables but i doubt it.

A resource-based economy

A resource based economy is by no means perfect but neither is this monetary system we are currently in. The thing that attracts me the most to the idea of a resource-based economy is the fact that everyone on this planet would have housing and food, the basics of which every person on this planet should have. Somehow we have enslaved ourselves to a life of work, food, watch TV and sleep and rinse and repeat. That is the ones on this planet that are lucky enough to have work and the ones that are lucky enough to have been born in a country where there is work, food and TV. The fact that you need to be lucky where you are born is just ridiculous to say the least.

Competitive State of Mind

We can't help it but we have been indoctrined to live a competitive life, it is just the way we have been brought up. We all want that nicer car, the nicer house, we want to be better than someone else because then we can brag at a birthday party to all our relatives and friends about how good we seem to be doing. We watch the news like hawks and feel save and secure watching all the crap that goes on in this world. It is rather sickening but it is a fact for the majority of people. Money comes first and humanity comes second or in some cases even worse. Their is no straight answer that can solve these issues but we could at least try.

Forced to earn Money

It is such a sad fact but true. Without money you can't pay your bills, without a job you won't earn money. I have had times where i earned a hell of alot of money and i have had tough times with hardly any money at all. I don't mind working to be honest but on the otherhand i do feel for the people doing the hard work like factory work, general labour, cleaning and what have you more. Their are jobs that can really zombify a person where they just don't care or think about anything really. Wake up go to work come home have food, try and enjoy the few hours you have and go to bed and rinse and repeat.

Think about it

With this post i am not trying to pursuade people into vouching for a resource based economy, all i am trying to do is make you think about it. Look around you and take a step back, think about the life you are living and think about the people less forunate. The fact that some people do not have food and housing and where internet is not available is just sad and pathetic. I do understand that the next bills need to be paid and the time we have to think about these issues is reduced to common day worries we are forced to have.

Microsoft Surface

Well not really but the following video is an introduction to Microsoft Surface. The product was launched last year but personally i had not seen it before thus the reason i am posting this. I am not an avid fan of Microsoft's desktop systems but i must admit this technology does impress me!

One movie came to mind after seeing the video and that movie is the "Fith Element", i can really imagine Microsoft Surface being implemented into our every day life.

Anyway checkout this video of microsoft surface technology

I wonder if these tables have become affordable yet? Hrmm it doesn't seem so..

"The Microsoft Surface has now been officially launched in the UK, as well as in 11 other European markets. Just don’t tell that partner of yours that the account and credit card will be practically £10,000 lighter!"

Google cloud computing

Google is working hard on cloud computing. The idea of cloud computing certainly isn't new. Oracle's Larry Ellison launched the New Internet Computer (NIC) company in 2000 to lead the industry forward to that goal. The concept is very simple: On your desk, you would have a very low-cost computer with just a processor, a keyboard and a monitor. There would be no hard drive or CD/DVD drive. It would be hooked up to the Internet and would link to a central supercomputer, which would host all of your programs and files. The idea, however, was ahead of its time. The NIC sold very poorly, probably due to a dearth of broadband availability in the United States [source: PCWorld]. The company folded in 2003.

Check this interview with Vint Cef about Cloud Computing

But by 2006, nearly 75 percent of Americans had broadband access at home [source: Neilsen/NetRatings]. Could a Google/Apple team make cloud computing a widespread phenomenon? And if they move forward, what's in it for Google and Apple? The biggest question of all: If they build the cloud computer, will anyone use it?
